• Argumentation Studies addresses the principles & methods through which people reason collaboratively or competitively:

  • On any topic where information, knowledge, or claims conflict or are inconsistent

  • By which reasoners strive to persuade others through verbal or visual means

• Expertise in argumentation provides unique & powerful training for a range of careers from human resources and conflict resolution to policy development, research, and education.

• Part of the involvement in the program includes participation in the Centre for Research in Reasoning, Argumentation & Rhetoric (CRRAR).

Post-Graduate, University Teaching Certificate (UTC) Program 

2016 – 2018

• The UTC Program is designed to help academics develop as scholarly teachers engaged in evidence-based, theoretically-grounded pedagogy, course-design, mentoring and assessment – which makes it useful to any academic in any teaching role, from full-time faculty members to graduate assistants.

• The UTC Program is academic in its scholarly basis, emphasis on critical reflection, and rigorous assessment – yet it is designed to be immediately flexible, adaptive, and practical, encouraging academics to apply what they are presently learning to their work as teachers.

Facilitators Development Workshop (FDW) 

2017

• The Facilitator Development Workshop (FDW) is a five-day training event to prepare facilitators to lead the Instructional Skills Workshops. Participants refine their teaching techniques through the mini-lessons, and with guided practice and feedback, develop strategies for facilitating the group process.

• Participants have the opportunity to develop new knowledge and techniques for facilitating group development, to explore other teaching methods, to explore formative evaluation techniques, and to receive feedback on their own teaching and facilitating skills. The FDW provides an opportunity for individuals to concentrate on their own professional development.

Instructional Skills Workshop (ISW) 

2016

• The Instructional Skills Workshop (ISW) is designed to encourage reflective practice and to assist participants in developing their teaching and feedback skills. The underlying principles of the workshop include: participatory learning, diversity of learning, adult learning, and the building of community that can be utilized in classrooms and institutions.

• Participants benefit from joining a network of colleagues who are committed to self-discovery and continual improvement of teaching and learning.

This program is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).

• Planning and designing online and in-person instruction based on the standards for Administrators Technology Director (NETS-D) set by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE)

• Organizing, teaching, and directing effective uses of technology in educational settings, being these in-person or online

• Efficiently and effectively employing adult learning theories and skills needed for integrating appropriate technologies in adult learning settings, i.e., Universities, Community Colleges, Non-Profit Organizations, Corporations, etc.
